Karen
H. Weber concentrates her practice in the area of elder law
with an emphasis on estate and Medicaid planning for nursing
home care. Karen also drafts special needs trusts for people
with disabilities and helps families establish guardianship
when necessary. Ms. Weber is
licensed to practice law in both Kansas and Missouri. She is a
frequent speaker at professional and community events discussing the topics of
elder law and Medicaid planning. Ms. Weber is the co-founder and
past-president of the Kansas Chapter of The
National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc., and she is the
co-author of The Alzheimer’s Legal Survival Guide, a
book available by contacting the firm. In 2001, the Kansas
Department of Commerce and Housing honored the Weber Law Offices as the Kansas Woman-Owned Professional Service Firm of the
Year. In 2002, Ms. Weber was selected as a finalist for the
Kansas City Business Ethics Award by the Society of Financial
Service Professionals. Karen received both her Juris Doctorate
degree and her Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration degree from the University of Missouri.
Following law school, Ms. Weber served a term as Law Clerk at the Missouri Court of Appeals. She then entered private
practice where she emphasized litigation before focusing
exclusively on the practice of elder law.

Maureen
Tarpenning, Paralegal, joined the firm in February 2002 as an
intern while completing her paralegal studies at the Brown Mackie
College. Her duties include greeting clients, answering the phones,
addressing initial client intake calls, scheduling appointments,
opening files, research, preparing estate planning documents and
pleadings related to probate, guardianship and conservatorship.
She is also responsible for much of the administrative maintenance
associated with operating the office. Our clients most appreciate
Maureen's kind heart and caring nature.

Michelle R.
Betzen, Paralegal, joined the firm in May 2006. Michelle has more
than 10 years of experience in the legal field with an emphasis on client
advocacy, including participation in a Victim Assistance Program
within the District Attorney's Office. Her responsibilities include
initial client interviews, client document review and preparation of
client files. She also assists in the preparation of estate planning
documents, verification of client assets and preparation of Medicaid
applications. Michelle's top priority is always the needs and concerns of our
clients.
